Free views of the river It’s a beauty. You can walk it or sit on it and enjoy the view. Near the historical market, which has tasty food. Definitely worth the time.

beautiful bridge in Budapest The Chain Bridge, known in Hungarian as Széchenyi lánchíd, is one of Budapest’s most iconic landmarks. It majestically spans the Danube River, connecting the two districts of Buda and Pest. A walk across the Chain Bridge is almost a must when visiting the city. You can easily combine this walk with a visit to the Castle District, as the Chain Bridge leads directly to the historic funicular, which takes you up to Castle Hill. From there, you’ll have a breathtaking view of the city and the river. The architecture of the bridge is truly striking: It is an impressive suspension bridge with two massive pillars that resemble triumphal arches. The elegant chains and the stone lion statues at the bridgeheads give it a classic, monumental charm, reminiscent of its opening in 1849. The Chain Bridge not only symbolizes the unification of Buda and Pest but also represents Hungary’s transition into the modern era.

A Classic Beauty with Character You stroll across it, and the whole thing just screams old-school charm. Green, sturdy, with those cool, Art Nouveau details—it’s got character. Whether you’re walking it by day or lit up at night, the bridge delivers some killer views of the Danube, and you can’t beat that backdrop of Buda and Pest. What’s great is it’s not overloaded with foot traffic like some of the other bridges. You can take your time, soak in the city, and it feels like a real local experience. Plus, it’s got history. You feel that vibe while walking across.Downside? It’s not as grand or dramatic as Chain Bridge, so it doesn’t have that instant wow factor. But it’s got personality, and sometimes, that’s what counts.

One of the most visited bridges in Budapest Of all the 8 bridges on the Danube River in Budapest, this one is the most favorite of the city's residents. This green iron bridge is located in the southern part of the city, next to the Central Market Hall, that is, it connects Fovam Square in Buda and Gellert Square in Pest. Although it looks big, still with 333.6 m. is the smallest bridge in the center of Budapest. I passed this bridge 3 times and enjoyed walking on it. On the iron structure, you will often see people sitting and waiting for the sunset, and they stay even in the night hours. From this bridge there is a beautiful view of the sunset and the river. If you take a closer look at the bridge, you will find one of the hidden mini statues of Mihaly Kolodko. On certain weekends of the year, this bridge closes to traffic and is repurposed for pedestrians only. So yes, on certain weekends in June, July or August, the bridge is closed to traffic and given over to young people and those who want to have a picnic on the bridge or party.

Art Nouveau Bridge The Liberty Bridge showcases an art nouveau aesthetic, featuring mythological sculptures and the Hungarian coat of arms. The bridge was completed in 1896 and was only partially damaged in WW2.

Striking and Historic Bridge Across the Danube Striking and historic iron bridge that spans the Danube, opened in 1896 as part of the many infrastructure projects undertaken during the Millenium Exhibition of 1896 which celebrated 1000 years since the founding of Hungary. The green eye-catching bridge was built in the art nouveau style. It can be explored when visiting the popular Central Market Hall as it is adjacent or can be enjoyed when on a cruise along the Danube River.

An Interesting Bridge On Sunday 28th July, 2024 (our last full day in Budapest) we visited the Liberty Bridge. It was adjacent to our River Cruiser - about a 10 minute walk away. The bridge is painted a distinctive green. Not as famous as the Chain Bridge but still is an impressive structure which was built in 1896. It's a very busy bridge with trams, cars and other vehicles coming and going all the time. There are some nice views of the Danube on either side of the bridge. We enjoyed our visit on the bridge.

Nice bridge One of many bridges over Danube river in Budapest, not so famous an valuable like Széchenyi Lánchíd. But it's worth to see and walk across the river over the bridge.

Icon with décor and good place for walks Liberty bridge or Freedom bridge was another attractive bridge we saw in Budapest across river Danube connecting Pest with Buda constructed closer to Mount Gellert Rock chapel. Bridge had two structures at either end at Pest end like some kind of guard rooms and the coat of arms fitted at both ends. The columns carried the images of flying "turuls" the mythological birds. Some of the ornamentation was gilded giving the bridge a majestic appearance. In the evening the bridge was lit up which gave a marvellous look to the city. With the pedestrian walkways the bridge provided safe crossing on foot and also to watch the river scene where boats were passing through every now and then. It was a nice area for an evening stroll.

Beautiful A beautiful bridge, as they all are in Budapest. Budapest just has prettier bridges than anywhere I've been. All are different but equally attractive.

Liberty Bridge Another amazing , must see/ walk bridge that crosses the Danube. As a total layman and tourist , i still can’t choose which bridge that crosses the Danube is the most impressive. We walked from Pest across the Chain bridge to Buda, down the banks of the Danube to the Liberty Bridge and back across to Pest . It’s a decent walk. And the Chain Bridge was my favorite. Then once at the Liberty Bridge, that was my favorite. I still can’t decide….

Festive Art Nouveau style steel bridge over the Danube Still standing strong, 127 years after its construction, this bridge is the best way to cross the Danube for pedestrians and cyclists. At the Pest side there is the Gellert hotel where a trail starts leading up to the Gellert hill. Great views over the Danube with high waters now in early December.
