Don’t be scared by people’s negative reactions. Just try it; you WON’T regret it!
I’m going to start with how to properly use this product when starting out if you want avoid any of the reactions that people often complain about and could maybe put you off of continuing to use this:- Use before bed, not in the morning. Adapalene makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. You should always use sunscreen, but if you are using adapalene, you DEFINITELY shouldn’t skip it.- Before bed, remove makeup and wash your face with a gentle or hydrating face wash (preferably with no actives, as some can actually increase irritation with adapalene (BHAs or AHAs) or even cancel it out (salicylic acid).)- While your face is wet, apply a light, simple moisturizer to lock the water in, but not anything occlusive that can block the absorption of the adapalene. Let that dry.- With something more occlusive like aquaphor, go in and put some around your eyes, your lips and the corners of your mouth, and around the sides and bottom of your nose. This adds a shield so that the adapalene doesn’t irritate this thinner, more sensitive skin. (You can skip this as long as you’re very careful NOT to put adapalene on any of these areas: eyelids, around the eyes, around the nose, around the mouth).- PLEEEAAASE: ONLY use a “pea sized” amount (LITERALLY) and dot it around your face before spreading evenly in a thin layer. That is ALL the product you need. This stuff doesn’t work “better” just because you apply more, and in fact, might just cause sensitivity and excess drying/flaking. Anything extra is also just wasting the product.- AlWAYS make sure to follow up after with a good, deeply hydrating moisturizer that works for your skin.- DO NOT start out using every day. You need to give your skin time to adjust to it, so start out conservatively (maybe only once or twice a week) and slowly work your way up (2-3x, 4-5x) before finally applying every day. If at any point during this journey your skin starts to react or feel overly sensitive, take it slow again and make sure you give it enough hydration.- During your first few weeks doing this, it’s best to ONLY use these steps and avoid any other type of skincare until your skin has become accustomed to adapalene. Just make sure you research what products you can use in conjunction that won’t alter the effectiveness of adapalene before adding anything back in.- Once you graduate to being able to use it every day, just stay consistent and the results will come.Just keep in mind that it is a medication that was previously only available with a prescription, so it’s not something you should overdo, ESPECIALLY when you’re starting out.Overall, this regiment should keep you from experiencing very little sensitization or irritation if any.I haven been using this product for years now, but I still remember when I first heard about it and decided to give it a shot. It takes time before you see serious changes in your skin, and sure, addressing other issues that could be causing your acne is important too (hormonal fluctuations was one of mine). That said, it WORKS.I definitely noticed a difference in my skin once I start back up after a few times that I had gotten lazy and skipped it for a while.Skin texture is smoother, breakouts happen less and resolve quicker when they do, and over all, skin is more even toned once this product gets to work, so I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND that you try it if you’re struggling with acne.Hope this helps, and best of luck!

Works if you are diligent
I can’t use retinol but an esthetician recommended Differin instead. I’m probably older than the target audience, I’m 36.If using this diligently, which for me is every other night, you will see a difference in about a month. If I stop using it, I stop seeing benefits. This doesn’t make my skin freak out.
