From the pre-visit phone call, it was quite apparent that the valuer had little enthusiasm for coming to assess our property. Unfortunately, the visit itself confirmed that impression. She gave the house little more than a cursory glance, made unnecessary and insulting comments about our décor, delivered what felt like a standard valuation spiel, and then left as quickly as possible.
We have heard absolutely nothing from the company since. Not that we would have instructed them after the way we were treated.
Everyone is entitled to their personal taste, but an estate agent attending a valuation should be professional enough to keep their own rather conservative and old-fashioned opinions about someone else’s home to themselves. More importantly, a potential client should not be made to feel that their property is somehow beneath the agent’s interest or attention.
