I have thought long and hard about writing this review. I have taken my older dog, Dan, to Carter for the past year. With his advanced age, I know that there are some health concerns, one being heart failure. This is where the issue started. Dan was given twice the amount of Lasix recommended. It caused a VERY expensive visit to MedVet (which I highly recommend). Dan was found to be in rough shape due to dehydration. I took him back to Carter and was told he wasn't dehydrated and to feed him a "renal stew". I knew something else was wrong, but I felt he just wanted me to take Dan home to die. After another visit to MedVet, he spent 3 days in the facility and was treated like he should have been by Dr Carter. Dan is now a different dog and is on the mend. We will have an uphill battle due to the overdosing of Lasix, and I will be taking Dan to a new vet to get that sorted out.
While our cat, Witte Poots, ultimately couldn’t be saved, Dr.Carter helped us through one of the hardest experiences any pet owner can face. He treated her with genuine respect and compassion and guided us through each step with honesty and care. He clearly explained what was happening and what our options were, allowing us to make the best decisions for her well-being. His calm, factual approach made a painful situation a little easier to bear. We’re deeply grateful for his professionalism and kindness. Providing her a relaxing, tranquil room to pass in, was so greatly appreciated. And the fact they sent a card afterwards with her printed paws, was a really nice touch.
Dr. Carter is great! My cat, now cats, have been seeing him a few years now. Had to call about a possible eye infection & and Dr. Carter made sure our girl was worked in and got the medicine she needed that day. We just waited a bit. He genuinely cares about everyone's animals. Definitely recommend him, as well as his very caring staff.
Dr. Carter has been wonderful for all our fur babies! He is so knowledgeable, compassionate, and always takes the time to make sure we understand any issues our dogs may have! He and his entire staff are so friendly, welcoming, and truly strive to accommodate their clients as well as the furry patients!!♡
Dr. Carter does very thorough examinations of animals under his care. He also explains everything that is going on with your pet and does so in a way that you can understand. He is an incredible vet and the staff at his office are so knowledgeable and helpful.
We found a kitten in our neighbors trash can and Dr. Carter’s office squeezed him in within two hours. They took such good care of him and treated him for his flea and bug infestation. Kitten was so tiny, but now he is a big playful boy thanks to Dr. Carter and his team that treated him.
Just had our first appointment here at Carter vet and wow. I couldn’t be more satisfied! Dr. Carter was extremely knowledgeable and we felt right at home. We had went to another vet recently trying to find “the one” and although it was stellar it didn’t quite feel like this one. Highly recommend!
Service February 2024: Dr. Carter's clinic is such a warm, welcoming place. My cat and I showed up as total strangers needing a major dental surgery, and they got her taken care of straight away. Also honest, transparent, and really take their time with patients. Pricing is very fair.
(Long-Winded) Context: I have an older cat Chloe (~10yo) who has a chronic autoimmune disorder of the mouth requiring tooth extractions. She has already gone through 2 surgeries and the other vets I've gone to didn't do a good job in giving me confidence they weren't just out for my money. They would tell me this disease is incurable and will likely end up with needing all of her teeth removed, but they would refuse to go ahead and just do a full teeth extraction, so it felt like they were milking me for as many $600-$1000 procedures as they could by doing only partial extractions without giving me a good understanding of why. They would just say "We don't do that; we only take out teeth that need to be removed." Don't they all need to be removed; isn't that the whole thing?? I also had one vet give me a "Maximum Estimate" that only accounted for partial teeth extraction on her last surgery, and when I asked "so... If my cat needs more teeth removed, theoretically the cost could be higher?" "Well, yes, technically." "So, this isn't a maximum estimate then?" "I guess it wouldn't be". No, I'm not playing that game.
When Chloe got another flare up, I reached out to Dr. Carter based on all the positive reviews as a totally new patient. I stated my situation pretty bluntly, including that I was hoping to get a full extraction done (again, total stranger, never met me, and here I am asking for them to take out all my cat's [remaining] teeth. I can be pretty shameless, lol)
They were able to get her in for a consult/check within about a week (with another Vet, not Dr. Carter), they agreed that she would likely need extraction but wanted to give Dr. Carter final say, and gave me options for either choosing their clinic for the surgery or providing a referral to a veterinary dental specialist if I wanted to try and get her in sooner and with someone more specialized in the surgery.
I stuck with Dr. Carter, and the day of the surgery before taking her in, he called me with his observations and recommendations. He said that he, too, would not be doing a full extraction, but then HE *EXPLAINED* WHY THAT WAS THE BEST AND SAFEST OPTION. Now I actually understand and am glad that Chloe has some teeth she was able to keep, at least for now. Never thought I'd have such a change of heart and be grateful at the thought of her potentially needing another surgery. We were probably on the phone for 30mins, he was patient and answered all my questions, and the final cost came out *lower* than the estimate because he gave me the maximum estimate from the get go. They even were willing to work with me when I was having trouble with my credit card at checkout.
Thank you, Dr. Carter and team. I can't remember the name of the other vet who did Chloe's consult, but she was also very kind and gentle with my girl. Great place, honest practices, and really treat pet parents with respect.
The Best Vet in town! Ive been taking my dog and cat there since they were young and the Staff (Beth and Staff at the front counter) are always helpful and get me in quick if one of our animals is sick. Dr Carter explains thoroughly what to do and help my pets health, especially the glucosomine gummies. My dog has some minor hip problems and with the gummies it has made him more comfortable and playful! So grateful for this!
