I have complete confidence in Dr. Sweeley and his staff. Dr. Sweeley is kind and honest, and the front staff (Cara and Melissa) are genuinely friendly, even though my little old dog is a tough customer! Cara always remembers my dog's history, even though we don't go in much. (That's the benefit of a small practice!) Carmel Clay Animal Hospital was highly recommended to me, and I see why.
I have been taking my pets to see Dr. Sweeley and his staff for over 20 years. I also work with multiple rescues and see various different veterinarians depending upon which rescue Iām working with at any given time and the thing I love about Dr. Sweeley and his office is that they will never push Anything unnecessary for your pet just to make a dollar. They sincerely care about the animals and want to do what is right. I have never been in an office where the assistants are nearly as knowledgeable as the doctor himself and so caring willing to help. Medicine is not an exact science and they will always be issues that cannot be fixed or misdiagnosed just the same as a human doctor. The only difference is a veterinarian cannot speak Or communicate with the animal and has to strictly go By their intuition. And I will tell you from multiple pets in 20 years doctor Sweeney has one of the best animal intuition of anyone Iāve ever met!
I sadly have to advise you to be cautious should you take your fur baby here. I took my cat in for lethargy, vomiting, and bloating and was told it was just gas from eating something he shouldn't have... no imaging and no labs recommended but I asked for labs. 2 days later labs show severe anemia and mild pancreatitis, was then told it was autoimmune and to give steroids and antibiotics and repeat labs in 2 weeks. Being in the medical profession I expressed my concerns for internal bleeding given the anemia and bloating and was told that was not the case. Again, no imaging. Against my gut, I followed instructions and gave the steroids and antibiotics. He remained stable for a few days but wasn't improving. He stopped eating entirely over the weekend and I took him to the emergency vet where they did do imaging and discovered a very large pancreatic mass that was causing internal bleeding... just as I suspected. The mass was so large it was felt on a physical exam too. A sample was taken from his swollen belly and was all blood. I had to make the gut wrenching decision to lay my baby to sleep after almost 2 weeks of him silently suffering, I had no idea, I trusted the doctor. I'll never forgive myself for not trusting my gut and pushing for more answers. I understand that everyone is human and makes mistakes, but please listen when someone who has been with their pet every single day for years expresses concerns, take the extra step. I'm left with an empty pocket, empty hole in my heart, and painful images of my baby's last moments as his stomach contents of blood and bowel poured onto me as he drew his last breath. Yes, it's intense but that is my truth. Be cautious and advocate.
I had an outstanding experience at Carmel Clay Animal Hospital, and I cannot recommend them highly enough.
I called several neighborhood vets searching for a place to examine and neuter a new cat in our family. From the outset, the staff at Carmel Clay were empathetic and helpful. They managed to fit us into their busy schedule the same week, even though it was just before Labor Day.
From the moment we arrived, it was evident that the staff shares a deep love for animals and is dedicated to providing the best care possible. They conducted a comprehensive examination and neutering procedure, all while demonstrating genuine concern and kindness for our cat. They followed-up with extensive notes and called us the following day to ensure our cat was recovering.
Carmel Clay Animal Hospital truly stands out for its prompt, attentive, and dedicated service. I am incredibly grateful for their help, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone seeking a trustworthy and caring veterinary clinic.
Super friendly, honest vet and doctor advisory/care, and a trustworthy team. Canāt recommend this place enough for your pet/dog care. We are so grateful for this practice. Weāve taken our English bulldogs to other / more commercialized practices before, and never again after finding this gem. We appreciate the trustworthy advisory, and not being overcharged for silly recommendations. Love this place!
The vet hospital is PAWS DOWN the BEST! I started bringing my Tibetan Mastiff, Bella, to this hospital back in about 2010, and they were PAWMAZING!!! My TM was very reactive, and this clinic truly went above and beyond to make sure that everyone involved stayed safe and relaxed. Dr. Sweeley is one of the most experienced veterinarians in the Indianapolis Metro area, and I cannot say enough good things about their practice manager, Kayla. They are both absolutely PAWESOME!
Dr Sweeley and his team are so amazing!! You can tell he cares about animals so much. He gave me very useful strategies and advice to help my cat maintain his health. I was very grateful for how patient he was with all my questions. Check in and check out were very efficient and everyone is so nice and kind. They're a one-of-a-kind clinic, I'm glad I found them to take care of my cat!
Dr. Sweeley and the team at Carmel Clay Animal Hospital are the most empathetic and kindhearted individuals. I've been taking my elderly dog and spicy cat to them for couple years now, and it's night and day to the treatment our animals had at our previous vet. I trust them whole heartedly with the care of my furbabies.
