We had the most amazing evening here. Andrea talked with such passion about her menu that we just had to stay for dinner. I had the Thai fish special, so tasty and my husband had oxtail. Both dishes were generous and full of flavour. The atmosphere was homely and not rushed, everyone on the restaurant was treated as if they were the only guests. Couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough.xx

The restaurant itself is very well designed. It’s split into diffrent rooms, and looks very nice.
The food is okay. Some dishes are even less then okay.
We are a family of 5, we ordered many different starters and mains. 2 out of the 5 mains were plain bad. We returned one fish because it was just not tasty, and ordered a steak instead. We were charged for the fish and the stake. I feel as if a restaurant which is this expensive, you would expect good service, which encludes owning up to when your food is not good.
Will not come back, and will not recommend.
Better to pick a diffrent restaurant, and a cheaper one.

Thank you for a mouth full of compliments including every dish ...including your Kingklip same as your ladys "the food is really excellent..every dish is so good" but she doesn't like the taste of Thai and prefer to have a sirloin instead. Amongst 22 other orders we took your ladys sirloin to the table. Can you recall the applause for the chef after everybody enjoyed their meal...but sadly then came the bill and everything was wrong and not so good in fact bad because Cafe 1904 didnt fall for the 'dont like it & just be nice maybe we get a free bee. Well sir let me tell you that's an old trick which no honest restaurant still not can understand although we can read people. It's so sad.

the food is really delicous, springbock capraccio as a starter and the signature dish the thai kingklip as a main. exquiste and friendly service, an overall wonderful experience which reflects the overall review perfectly.

GEM OF A RESTAURANT IN HERMANUS
What a lovely "find" this restaurant was. The service, the atmosphere and the food - all superb. My husband and I had starters and the Seafood platter for two as well as lovely dessert. We'll definitely be back.

Fish or Meat... done fairly well, if slightly pretentious, which is reflected in the price, which is high-ish for locals, but easy for foreign tourists... To be fair, I had a simple grilled hake and chips, with a side of calamari- which could have stayed in the kitchen. Wifey had a lamb curry, which was better all round, but you gotta love meat on the bone...
Menus are chalked on boards, and presented by hosts, which seems cute, but leaves one indifferent to what's is on offer.
Worth a try, but don't expect much and you could be pleasantly surprised.

Definitely highly recommended
Great food for a fair price. We both had the mussels and they were delicious! The portions were fine and the plates were also nicely served. Definitely recommended when in Hermanus!
