Such a gem of a find. One of the few places these days where you can’t hear constant road noise, just nature. The peace and quiet was incredible and add that to welcome hospitality, wonderful food (dinner and breakfast) and a really comfortable bed…heaven.
We’d read a couple of bad reviews but so glad we ignored them. Can’t recommend highly enough.
A perfect escape
Just a beautiful, peaceful spot. One of the few places you can find these days where there is no road noise (and our room was at the front of the hotel!) We arrived early but couldn’t have felt more welcome. The food was fabulous (dinner and breakfast) and the bed so comfy. If you are looking for an escape, can’t recommend highly enough.
A Wonderful Discovery
A friend discovered this wonderful hotel for a one night stay before a local event. The location is outstanding, yes it's remote but also peaceful, beautiful and tranquil. The room was spotless, large with a very comfortable bed. Tea and coffee with home made shortbread gave it the wow factor. We both slept well. I woke at 1am to use the loo and was blown away listening to two tawny owls. We booked on a DBB basis and the food and service took our breath away. I had the carrot soup to start and we both had the lamb. We indulged in a pudding and all without exception was out of this world delicious. Breakfast too was amazing. My friend had the full breakfast and totally enjoyed it. I did not catch either of the waiting staffs names but both were very warm, welcoming and friendly and just made the stay. I can't wait to go again. I could write about this hotel for ages it's just that good
Absolute Perfection
Another amazing stay in Willow Cottage. Location is just perfect. So quiet and such a perfect set up. The extra touch of the phone box on the slippers and the little bag for cleaning stuff was so nice . Had a lovely lunch and a bottle of wine after a 10k walk. Staff were lovely and sandwiches were great. The phone box/book library where you can help yourself and also leave books is another wonderful idea . Could not fault a single thing and I WILL be back without hesitation.
Don’t bother staying in the hotel…
Don’t bother staying in the hotel - yes it’s a beautiful place but it’s definitely not a 4 star hotel, or worth the money, compared to other better places. See other poor reviews, I haven’t bothered complaining as you can tell they won’t care. Room 5 - Valentine Lock on bathroom door broken, had to fix ourselves. Bedroom door handle too hard to turn open. Bedding not sorted on arrival, had to wait till it was made up, as did guests before us, despite it being well after the earliest arrival time and letting them know when we would arrive. No towels, had to go and get them. No milk, had to go and get that. Dead moth on blind, been there a long time. Asked for haggis didn’t arrive on plate. Has to ask if we were getting any toast. Toast didn’t see the toaster, was just like warm soggy bread. Coffee was awful, like water. Tea not much better. As a result skipped a full breakfast the next day. Hardly a welcome or a farewell, no one around, felt like a ghost hotel. Dress cushion on bed filthy Toilet wouldn’t flush without using bucket out of bin filled with water to flush it. Toilet brush broken. Feel sorry for the staff if this is the owners attitude to guests. Hope you manage to rectify these things for future well paying guests.
Relaxing stay, great location and food
Stayed in “Pip” cottage. Impressive kitchen, massive bathroom and spectacular views out of the windows. Neighbours are a long way away - great privacy - abundant wildlife - hares, siskens, swallows, wagtails and deer. Ate in the restaurant- scallops and lamb were top notch and very reasonable prices. Hotel staff were all welcolming - would thoroughly recommend a stay.
We didn't stay but we regularly have dinner at this hotel restaurant and tonight was great 💯 service from Dennis was first class and it was a real treat to see the chef proudly appearing in the restaurant and ask if we were happy. On this point I told him it was fantastic the steak and hand cut chips were great but the dark chocolate souffle was next level and absolutely sensational well done 👍 and thank you
Romantic break
We have visited the Ardeonaig every time we come to the area, which is frequent, and shared it with our parents in the past. So it was a natural choice for our elopement wedding last year. The wedding was emotional having now lost our parents and intimate thanks to the hotel. So this year we returned for our first anniversary (been together for years but finally got round to it). Once again it was a special occasion. Nothing was too much trouble last year and this year was relaxed and romantic. As for the hotel it is kept in great condition. Don't think bellboy and ridiculous levels of staff think quiet, relaxed and helpful. New chef this year and the food was great. The breakfast is enough to last to the evening. Lovely ingredients and plenty of it. The hotel seems to have a lot of passing trade on the national cycle route and from walkers but I would suggest it should be a destination hotel for peace and quiet and relaxation. (But not next May because we will be back for our 2nd anniversary!).
