Absolute, delirious joy eating at Anjappar. The Egg Meals is my favorite. The Chapati is super soft and the egg kurma is chef's kiss! 😘 The tea is just right. I love the spice levels of the food and the variety in their menu.
The one grouse I had was with the fact that the filter coffee wasn't as hot as one expects coffee to be.
For anyone looking to experience authentic South Indian Chettinad cuisine, this is the place to be. We tried the nandu (crab) masala, vanjaram (Indian mackerel) fish curry, chicken lollipop, chicken tandoori, fish meals, ghee dosa, kothu parotta, lamb dum biryani, and chicken mini meals—and every dish was absolutely delicious.
Each dish had that rich, mouth-watering, and genuinely authentic Chettinad flavor. Thankfully, the spices and taste have not been “Germanized” yet. The ambience is modern and inviting, the service is warm and friendly, and the location is right in the city center with easy access by public transport.
Prices may seem slightly on the higher side, but the generous portions and authentic taste make it well worth it. A definite must-visit.
We visited this restaurant twice, and the food was amazing on both occasions. However, there are a few service aspects that could be improved. We ordered rose milk, but it tasted like plain milk with very little rose flavor, and the quantity was already quite small. When we mentioned this, the staff took the same glass, added more rose essence, mixed it, and returned it to us, which felt a bit awkward.
Also, unlike many restaurants in Berlin that allow guests to charge their phones, I was asked to pay to charge mine when my phone had completely died.
Overall, the food is excellent, but improving these service details would make the experience much better.
Wow, what a feast. Nope, I wasn't hungry but the food was soooo damn good. Ordered Anjappar Virunthu, it came in two big tray. Was meant to share with my husband. Everything in it was top notch. But the meen kulambu a.k.a fish curry was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Authentic...so authentic. Also ordered Kerala parotta, kal thosai (dosa) but I want to go again for the fish feast.
Only an Indian Restaurant can do this. I was just standing at the gate waiting as it was written “Welcome, Wait for us to be seated” as nobody was there. The guy at the counter called me and asked me repeatedly, “ Which company Uber Eats or Wolt”? What he just assumed I’m a delivery guy. Just because I’m Indian. You know Germans would also not do that. You need to atleast ask first if you are in doubt. But I was assuming a warm welcome to a Indian restaurant but got something else. Will not be going back there again.
Excellent service, glad we came. If you like your food spicy you will not be disappointed. Expect your meat to be on the bone, although it's more flavoursome this way it's not really my thing and that's why I dropped a star. However the flavours are brilliant. I had a biryani and it was delicious, the sauce that came with was spicy and definitely different from my husbands curry. We had to cool down with a mango lassi which was divine. Prices are reasonable too, definitely recommend this place.
Anjappar has a nice, spacious setting and the food itself is flavorful and well prepared. The service was good and the overall atmosphere was comfortable, making it a pleasant place to sit and eat. However, the mutton biryani was a letdown due to the very small amount of meat compared to the rice. While the taste was good, it felt disappointing for what you expect from a mutton dish. Decent experience overall, but there’s definitely room for improvement.
