Not worth the money
I was so excited when I saw the email stating my test results were in. However, all I received was a certificate and letter giving me the name of 1 tribe and country. For $300 I was very disappointed.My 23 and Me provided so much more detailed information about my African Ancestry that this does.I decided to order Living DNA which to my understanding offers a LOT more information for a lot less, only $99I'd recommend skipping this one unless you're planning to get your Sierra Leone citizenship. Otherwise it's a complete waste of money
Total rip off!
I’m so dissatisfied with this company. Paid over $300 for some piss poor azz results. Not only did I wait nearly 6 months to receive anything; they claimed they couldn’t find my order!! Ugh!! I had to harass them for it. They finally sent my results via email. Where I thought I would get a nice physical copy as I’ve seen the paid influencers present on the Tube….No break down of any kind The point of me paying is to get results where I don’t have to do the research. This is what I paid you over $300 for!! Results are vague. It like they spun a globe blind folded and wherever their finger lands that’s where the customer is from. Lame azz certificate is what I got emailed to me only. Again with vague results. I can’t even find the so called tribe on the map! I’m truly heated. Never again! Won’t recommend to a friend nor enemy.

I purchased the family test and was am to get DNA from my grandmother’s last sister. The results were vague and when I reached out to ask could it have been the sample I never received a response.
A Total Disappointment and Rip-off! Not Recommended.
I requested this as a Christmas gift. I waited and waited for my results. I am deeply disapppinted to "learn" that "somewhere in my lineage, there was a European women". That's the info I received. Now, would that satisfy you?

I took my test June 2021. Got my matriclan results November 2021. In April 2022 I visited my ancestral country, Sierra Leone and became a citizen while I was there! 🙌🏾Photo is me receiving my passport from His Excellency President Bio.
Ordered and received both Matriclan and Patriclan tests...
In my desperation to find biological paternity (after finding out I was illegit at age 63) I took all of the DNA tests...yes, perhaps before I understood what I was doing. I just wanted answers. For genealogical purposes, i.e., searching for close, or even distant relatives, African American Ancestry.com Patriclan and Matriclan tests are not useful-not even a little bit. Why? They do not provide any matches. As for determining your 'tribe' --be skeptical. Africa is the most genetically diverse continent on the planet. It will take an Act of God, lots of money and lots of time to gather the DNA and catalog even a fraction of all of the African groups in Africa. Ethnicity, as most people in this country understand it, is not black and white and ancestry for African Americans is even more complex because of slavery. My DNA results from all of the other DNA testing services indicate a 25% Western European mix. The tests results provided by African American Ancestry.com, did not provide complete data/information on this. All of the other testing services did. And all of the other testing sites cost A LOT less. The Patriclan test offered by African American Ancestry.com, analyzes only 9 markers. Thirty-seven markers is the standard for determining genealogical relevancy. This service does one thing for me, it reminds me and underscores the fact that Africa sold Africans and was in the business of slave trading.
Complete waste of money......
I’m extremely disappointed in the results I received from African Ancestry. After testing my mother’s side I received ONE tribe..... which is completely out of scope considering I have thousands of Ancestors from Africa. It is very much impossible that my mother’s side consists of only one tribe. I feel ripped off out of TOO much money. I’ve learned more communing than I have from this test. I love the mission, but this test is completely misleading.
Knowing where you’re from is PRICELESS!
Being able to find out exactly where in Africa you come from is a gift that no one can ever take from you. It’s something that can be passed on for generations to come, and that these results in particular can be share with family members. I appreciate and trust African Ancestry as the first to ever do it and the only black owned DNA company that doesn’t share/sell your info. My husband’s family is from Haiti and he was able to trace his maternal ancestry back to the Brahma and Balanta people living in Guinea-Bissau 🇬🇼 (I grew up knowing my family is from Uganda and Rwanda).
For Me and My Daughter!!! Beyond Excited!!!
My daughter has been asking where in Africa we come from for years! I just bought the Matriclan Kit and will present the results for her birthday. I am almost tearing up at the thought of being able to give her the key to her roots. So far we have researched our genealogy back to Virginia/West Virginia...then dead stop. Once it's safe to travel again we will get to plan the ultimate family trip.

A Gift that keeps giving!
I first invested in an African Ancestry test kit as a daily project. We were planning our bi-annual family reunion and I thought that that would be a great opportunity to trace our ancestry beyond our US roots. That familial experience proved to be unbelievable and truly sparked an interest in our group to learn more about our ties to Sierra Leone. In fact, post-covid, we are hoping to have our reunion in the motherland.Moreover, the experience is so enlightening that, as a black business owner who also employs several young African Americans, I recently made the decision to purchase these kits as gifts for my younger employees as I believe that it's critical that they too know their ancestry! So, even if you're not African American, this is a gift that can truly help change the lives of any of your African American friends.

I hope everyone gets this DNA test kit for themselves because it will benefit the whole family. I am so proud to have this test and find out where my mother's lineage is from in Africa down to the tribe. African Ancestry is one of the best decisions I could make for myself. I cannot wait to share the results with my loved ones and be able to identify more of my heritage. Just buying it was the first step and I already feel so empowered. My whole family does. We are all excited!

I highly recommend this. I've taken DNA tests with several other companies and none were able to tell me the specific African lineage of either my father or my mother. I wish I would have started my journey with African Ancestry, as it would have saved me and my family so much time, money and disappointment.I provided with the specific tribe (Kpelle!) and also guided through exactly how the science works and provided with lots of guides, ebooks, and other video content about the African countries and ethnic groups of my ancestors.Not only is the test easy, and the customer service excellent, the African Ancestry Online Community is super engaged and fun. It was great to not only have the company celebrate my results but to also have access to an entire online community who instantly welcomed me like family. Being adopted, and feeling disconnected from my roots, this was a life-enhancing experience. And I'm glad I was able to do this on behalf of my siblings and their children. Now we all know more than we did before and don't ever have to experience losing this part of our family history again!
No other DNA Test seems to be able to locate the specific region of my ancestors in Africa
I am so excited about receiving my African Ancestry MatriClan Test Kit -- even though my results will not be back for a while. I have read and heard enough about African Ancestry that I know that if anyone can identify with specificity where my African ancestors hail from, this company can. Although this test will only be able to trace my mother's African roots, I have just purchased a second kit that I will gift to my nephew, the only living male on my father's side, to find out where my father's people were located in Africa. I can learn the specific tribe and region in Africa. These results are worth the highest rating to me.
