*Exceptional customer service* We initially contacted valley home builders based on their amazing reviews and boy did they not disappoint disappoint! This all started when we decided to add an ADU (accessory dwelling unit) in our back yard to house my elderly parents. A quick internet search and Valley home builders came on top (for a reason!) We ended up calling them and connected with a gentleman that couldn't have been more knowledgeable on ADUs and city ordinance. He walked us through their ADU check list and sure enough my property qualified ( they also offered a free on site visit/consultation) unfortunately for us they don't serve San Francisco but that didn't stop them from helping us through the process. They talked to us about different designs and even shared some of the floor plans of their current projects as well as a general idea on pricing (we were clueless). They then proceeded to recommend some of their sub contractors that can help us on different phases of our project. We eventually ended up hiring a local builder in SF and even then I contacted them to confirm whether the quote we got was reasonable and they had no problem looking over the quote and giving us advice. It's hard to find an honest contractor that puts the customers needs first but I can tell you Valley home builders showed us that there is still hope! I am very glad we crossed paths and if we end up moving to the South Bay, I won't be hiring any other contractor.

One way you can tell a project is successful is when at its completion you feel you made the right choice for your builder, among other initial options. One year later, this impression is confirmed. The good impression we had at first with Arman was confirmed. VHB was definitely up to the task, very professional. Their top strength was in their architectural design experience and advices (Robert), and in project management (Mohammad), while all other aspects of the execution exuded professionalism. The VHB owner followed closely the project, and was hands on. Given that we had non-standard demands (insulation, structure), VHB proved to be quite flexible in accommodating our requests and in problem solving situations - both for the main structure and interior design. If we had some frustration it came from where we did not expect it: the slow processing of permit requests from the city, complex and arcane regulations (in spite of the city recently vowing to ease ADU construction), and the city clearly messed-up by requesting some changes late in the construction due to new fire regulations (closeness to the main home) while city could have caught these at the very beginning on the blueprint when presented for the initial permit. VHB proved to be patient, resourceful and accommodating. Afterward we realized how much our project needed a robust, cohesive and experienced team and VHB turned out to be exactly that. VHB was an absolute pleasure to work with. They were professional, competitive, passionate, and very knowledgeable. After listening to a description of our project and concerns, they crafted a remodeling plan tailored to address our exact needs while keeping extra costs low. They efficiently divided our project into multiple phases for a full design and build experience. Throughout the remodel, they demonstrated a mastery of design and build work while keeping us thoroughly consulted when needed. Once construction began, they provided us peace of mind that things were being professionally built and handled everything from management of subcontractors to permitting. I highly recommend them without reservation, and would work with them in the future without hesitation!

I worked with Arman during the consultation and from the moment I met with him through the moment I made a decision on a contractor he was nothing but helpful and very professional. He gave great advice on the project and was very helpful every time I talked to him.

I've been incredibly impressed by Arman since our first interaction. We had set up an initial appointment/consultation in March, but due to covid, we had to cancel that meeting. I really appreciated him still respectfully checking in every few weeks even though we hadn't met, and it wasn't clear when they would be allowed to operate again. He came by this morning to view our home and gave us his honest thoughts after hearing what we were looking for. He wasn't trying to sell us at all. Just gave us his professional and practical opinion that will end up saving us a lot of money. He was also very thoughtful and took all necessary health safety precautions which we appreciated (wearing a mask, not touching anything, staying 6 ft away, spreading out his home visits, etc). He was so kind and genuine - it honestly was so refreshing! I would recommend him and his services to anyone who is looking for a honest contractor.

BACKGROUND: This review is not so much about how the construction process went with Valley Home Builders, but more about why I am proud to have chosen VHB and why you should have VHB at the top of your list! My parents have remodeled every house I lived in while I grew up, so when it came to selecting a contractor, I knew exactly what I needed to look for in a contractor when we were ready to add 499sq family/dining room to our house. I had toyed around with remodeling our house over a 7 year period, and I knew that VHB was the company I wanted since I first met Arman (co-founder) back in 2012. He was down to earth, genuine and not interested in trying to wow me with the lowest bid. Nor was he interested in telling me that everything was going to progress perfectly (it didn't) Arman was most interested in making sure I knew what I was getting into. A few years later my neighbor directly across the street went with VHB for a major expansion and remodel and that sealed the deal for me. REVIEW: VHB wowed me because of their old school roots where reputation and integrity matter most. This emanated from the owner (Medhi) and trickled all the way down to Orlan (the most infectiously cheerful person ever) who demoed our house. These guys would stick to their word, even during the occasions when it meant it may cost them money! I chose VHB not only because of their experience and expertise, but because of how they have their experience set up. First of all, they have all of the vital core construction teams under one roof. Because of this, I was able to rest easy throughout the project because they didn't have one guy trying to be an expert in all things but that they had specialized experts that guide the teams in Demo, Foundation, Construction and Finishing. Conversely, one of my friends chose a Jack of all trades, master of none kind of guy who did an absolutely terrible job on the remodel. Everything he did was sloppy, he completed very few of the projects and he completely blew out the budget in the process! My buddy ended up having to sue him to get his 6 digits of costs back (it's still ongoing)! On another front, another of our close friends opted for a Contractor who subcontracted out a majority of the process (their project was a little bigger than ours), they ended up being quite miserable and hated it. They ended up with ex - Tom, Dick and Harry's construction guys, who were recovering from alcohol and drugs. They never felt unsafe, but they never knew who was coming to do what, nor did they have any consistency in who was owning various parts of the project, nor the quality of the work being done. Trust me, you want everyone to be under one roof. It was also very cool to see that Medhi visited our house numerous times during the foundation construction phase to ensure that it was built properly. The fact that he would show up so often conveyed to me that he was just as concerned about the accuracy of our construction of our property as I was. Unlike many people I've worked with, Mohammad, our Project Manager, was amazingly responsive, a great listener, fun and helpful and he helped us save money! We actually consider him part of our family now. I've never worked with anyone as responsive as he was (talk about 24/7 service). Despite his easy going personality, he was always on top of things and do whatever it takes to ensure things were taken care of. My wife who had never experienced (and was very apprehensive about) a remodel was completely at ease throughout the process. She knew that Mo not only had her back, but more importantly took time to listen to her, alert her of upcoming things, and made her concerns his concerns. Because of Mo, my wife now knows that an expansion/remodel does hot have to be a scary/horrible process, but in fact can be a great experience. It is because of Mo that my wife is onboard for future remodels. Thank you Mo! I am very proud of my choice of going with VHB and am very pleased with the results. I look forward to working with them again in the future! Thank you VHB!

I never like the idea of remodeling our home. I do not like the dust, the mess, the uncomfortable interaction with the contractors (when trying to get our demands fulfilled), and the fact that the cost is always over our budget; I want to avoid all of it if I can. Well, that was me before I went through the remodeling journey with VHB. We chose VHB because of the way Arman talked to us about the company. He didn't try to sell "dream", instead, he gave us the reality of what to expect. He promised that there would be time during the journey that we would not like what they do. He promised that the journey would not be all rosy and satisfactory on every steps of the way. So, he wanted us to be prepared. Unlike other general contractors that we interviewed who promised us the moon; Arman's honesty was the winning factor. And the fact that our neighbor said that they would use VHB again despite some things they went through during their construction, that spoke volume to us. Now, here we are. Almost done. Arman was right. Not all rosy. Not all satisfactory. There were grumbles here and there. And the dust and the mess!!!! Oh boy. BUT!! Let me tell you how AWESOME the people we have been working with for the last few months. They are very respectful. I never thought that I would be able to have a comfortable relationship with the people who remodeled our home. And they do their job with full dedication. It shows over and over again. Here are the few people that have major roles during our construction: 1. Orlen. I don't know what I would do without Orlen taking part in the job. I learned the "art" of using the painter's tapes properly from watching him. He makes me feel at ease because what he does is the thing that I care about the MOST. One time, I even knew that Orlen came by when I saw my garage was so tidy because no one else could have done it like he did. Thank you, Orlen!! 2. Jesse. Well, not sure what to say about Jesse. We are amazed by him. He is pretty much the one who built our entire new expansion. He is super friendly, easy to talk to, helpful, and highly skilled. Thank you, Jesse!! 3. Mo. Mo is our project manager and the driver of the whole project. I am sure his job is not easy. Running the project and dealing with homeowners who have different personalities and expectations are not easy and take a skill. But, guess what?! He manages us just fine. :P He has his own way of dealing with us to make sure we get what we need and even BEYOND!!! He really knows how to handle us and make us feel like we always win the battles. Sure, he needs a lot of vacation during our project (*is it really that stressful dealing with us, Mo?? :P), but he has been graceful and generous to us. He is not all business. He is personable and very accommodating. Knowing that we have him on our back really put me at ease. His easy going and relax personalities really help me to take things easy with the whole project. We are very thankful for his flexibility in answering all our questions during off hours and weekends. We don't really like to bother him during those times, but we can't avoid it since we both work during the day. Well, not all those off hours' conversations are ALL about the project. We have fun poking at each other as well :P. Budget wise, the whole project would have been a nightmare if Mo isn't stepping in here and there to help us. Thank you for being so generous to us, Mr. Mo! We are lucky to having you as the OM and not the PM!! :P (I am sure Mo understands what I mean) You are AWESOME!!!!! All in all; dust, mess, over budget; they are inevitable. However, if someone was to ask me if I would ever do remodeling again......my answer would be "sure, why not?!" :P Btw, Mehdi, you are lucky to have great people working for you!! Thank you, VHB team!

They dont have a voice mail setup, and do not respond to calls. They should be removed from Yelp to avoid wasting time of others.

Collaborative, honest, and efficient We recently worked with Valley Home Builders on an addition of the master suite to our home. We had decided to work with them because of the favorable experience we had a few years ago when communicating with Arman, their project developer, when we were planning a different project (which we had put off). We had met with a few design-to-build companies then, and felt that Arman was the most tuned into our needs and lifestyles. To be fair, a few other companies provided very helpful input and advices as well, but we appreciated how Arman's questions to us were around our lifestyle and how the new space could augment it, instead of what kind of new space we should consider. So this time for the space addition project, we went straight to Valley Home Builders. Because of the preceding communication, Arman was quick to digest the intention of our project. Stepping right into the planning phase, we visited and sat with Robert, their architect, a couple of times a month for a few months. He listened to our needs, brainstormed with us various options, and turned ideas into shape. We wanted the new space not to exceed certain square footage, while trying to fit the master bedroom and a spacious Japanese ofuro-style bathroom (soaking tub and washing space around it), so Robert's creative input was definitely invaluable. During the interior design, we worked with their designer Olga over the course of a few months. She took Robert's spacing plans and our vision, and iterated on the design (particularly of the bathroom which was the most demanding) to provide us with an impressive design solution. The latter half of this phase was spent on selecting materials, which was very meticulous thanks to Olga's attention to detail. We were also happy to receive her input when we were uncertain about our selection of materials. Lastly, we were introduced to Paul, their project manager, and kicked off the construction phase. Even though we experienced a number of rainy days (the construction took place during winter-spring), Paul and team were flexible in adjusting the schedule and the order of tasks, in an attempt to minimize the number of wasted days due to the weather. To the eyes of us lay people, the team was very efficient and always working on something despite the weather; however, this was also echoed by my good neighbor who is also in construction business himself, as he would witness the progress. Whenever we had question about the progress or schedule, Paul would respond in a timely and honest manner. He would sometimes also come in himself to touch up on small things. We aren't sure if the project managers typically do that, but we definitely appreciated his attentiveness and attention to detail. There had been problems with defective parts, certain things not working as expected, etc, but Paul was quick to address them. We also appreciated how during the construction phase, Mehdi (the owner of the company), Robert and Joy (designer who inherited the project from Olga) would pay a visit every now and then to check on the progress and the quality. Now we have moved into the new space, and everyone in the family enjoys it. We would definitely work with them on future projects.

From the first meeting with Arman at the Home Show, we could tell Valley Home Builders was different from most of the other builders (much to our liking). They were not one of the pushy, get in/out quickly contracters. Their motivation was to make us a happy customer. We hired them to do a Kitchen and Great room remodel/addition, and are thrilled with how it turned out. They dedicated a lot of time up front in understanding our desires/needs. They even took time to understand our lifestyle, and used that to help influence the design of the project. They also offered suggestions to us of styles that we were not even aware of, and these helped in the overall design. When it came time to implement the design, they provided a detailed schedule of how it would progress. And, they mostly kept to the schedule. There were times where we would think of late additions, and they were able to accomodate them. There was a also a time where a mistake was discovered (location of light switches). This led to some tear out and do-over of some work, but there were no additional charges (to us) in order to complete this. Again, confirming their motivation was getting things right.

Our project was a full gut and relayout of the existing floor plan with a 700+ sqft addition and new garage. VHB stuck very close to their budget proposal throughout the project. We chose VHB after meeting with Arman who patiently took the time to help us understand the full process of what it takes to build a home and how VHB does it differently. Arman was awesome to work with, he didn’t pressure us in anyway, he was really there to listen and understand our needs and how VHB could help to build the right home. I had worked with contractors in the past for smaller projects like a bathroom remodel and it was a mess in terms of design, logistics and material selection. When we learned that VHB provided end-to-end services with architecture, design, and permit management we decided that they would be in the running out of our list of contractors we interviewed. But, In addition to their great team, it was their structured approach of locking down and signing off designs together that really sold us. For a project of this size, we wanted to avoid the headache of last minute design and purchase decisions. During the planning phase, we were well heard by the architect and designers. Robert, Joy and Olga did an excellent job listening to our needs and really understood what we were looking for. Early on I felt confident that this team could handle all of our design details and execute. Though there are always some hiccups in the process, we felt these were all communicated early and the team was able to make things right. Our project was managed by Paul - we were fortunate to have his meticulous eye watching over everything. There were always details that I wouldn’t have seen myself, but he took the time to make things just right even if they had to be redone. All of the subcontractors VHB worked with did excellent work. I really have no complaints here. Paul also worked tirelessly to finish our home so we could move in when our baby arrived. Thanks Paul! Overall, we’re very happy with the quality and process that VHB provided. I would definitely go with VHB if I had to do it all over again.
