In the long and painful process of searching for memory care for my dear sweet high functioning mother, ActivCare Bressi Ranch initially seemed like the right place. She passed their evaluation and was told she was a good fit. We completed the deposit and paperwork and believed she would be admitted.
The next day, without warning and with no explanation, they reversed their decision and declined her. My mother was accepted one day and denied the next, and ActivCare has never explained why. They have never identified a single need my mother had that they could not meet, even though she had already passed their own evaluation. This was not just a disappointing experience. Their sudden reversal affected my mother’s final years. It was devastating during an already overwhelming time. Families deserve clear communication when making difficult decisions under pressure, and we were left with none.
Your response still does not answer the core issue. My mother was evaluated, accepted, and told she was appropriate for your program, and then abruptly declined the next day with no explanation at all. Saying “sometimes we cannot accept everyone” is not an explanation. It avoids the question of why you reversed your decision overnight after telling us she was a good fit. Families cannot make informed choices when a facility will not clearly communicate the reasoning behind its own decisions.

My mother was a resident at this facility for 4 years and every time I visited I watched the caregivers care for her and the other residents. It didn't matter when I showed up, what was happening, every caregiver without exception was kind, respectful and loving to the residents. I cannot say enough about this facility. I can truly say she was healthier and happier there than I could have made her at home.

When my wife was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's, our family was utterly lost. We didn't fully understand the disease or know what the "right" next steps were. The staff took the time to walk us through our options with patience and expertise, reassuring me and my entire family that it was going to be okay. Our Loved One lived at ActivCare Mission Bay. Once settled in, I felt a weight had finally been lifted. I could see she was receiving consistent, compassionate care there. They treated her and all the residents with respect, and provided a warm and welcoming environment. They had good communication and were super supportive to the us, the family. The place is clean and attractive, and most importantly they have a team of staff that really cares. From the management, to the front desk, the nurses, med-techs, housekeepers, caregivers and the behind-the-scene workers…they are some of the most caring, patient and hard working people I have met. Update 10/20/2025: My cousin Bertha is a happy and thriving resident at ActivCare Laguna Hills because of the staff. I know this because of the multiple calls I receive in a day from Bertha and some of first words out of her mouth are " The people here are nice to me!" These words are so comforting to me since her parents left their special needs daughter in my care.
Recently Bertha's mother passed away and this was soon after she had visited Bertha at ActivCare. After the loss of her mother, there was so much love shown to Bertha by all the staff. Marlene M. the program specialist would frequently call and update me on how Bertha was feeling during this very difficult time.
Marlene has made my life so much easier in so many ways by letting me know what Bertha needs, updating me on the activities she participates in and those she does not and how she is feeling emotionally. She often goes in her room to make sure Bertha's closet and room are in order. I know Bertha is well cared for!
Bertha is a social butterfly and she enjoys talking with others. I have often dropped by, unannounced, and seen Marlene and Bertha laughing and talking. Marlene also engages lovingly with other residents as well. She is such a kind and caring human being. I feel as though she is a part of Bertha's family.

I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the incredible healthcare and love given to my cousin Bertha, who has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome
Recently, I bought Bertha’s mother, who is 95 and is in a wheelchair, to visit Bertha at ActivCare Laguna Hill. Her mother was so impressed and relieved when she saw that her daughter was living in a beautiful community, with competent and caring staff members. Bertha began telling her mother about the different activities and later we took her to see Bertha’s room. Bertha calls ActivCare her second home. Second, because the first home was where she live for 51 years but now both she and her mother live in residential communities.
Bertha loves her new home so much that on special occasions and holidays she prefers to be at ActivCare because of the activities rather than be with her family which was unusual. I told Chantal, the activity director, that Bertha loves your activities so much she has forgotten about her family.
Because Bertha has always been a helper and caretaker of others—instinctively; staff noticed this desire, so they gave her an ActivCare staff badge that names her as an assistant. All of this has won my Bertha’s heart and love and has also given her a PURPOSE!
I am so grateful to Debbie, program director, for leading such a great team and showing so much love to my Bertha. I thank GOD for the care staff, medtechs, nurses, front desk and Ruby in marketing for making this transition so easy these past two months. Everyone has proven to be a blessing from God to Bertha and her family.

ActivCare has competent and friendly staff who know the residents individually and care for them with compassion. There are 3 meals and two snacks every day with individualized extras as needed. The grounds are beautiful and the resident's areas are clean, cheerful and designed thoughtfully. The staff were helpful to me and very kind. The facility is located in a lovely area of Carlsbad California and it is easy to take your loved one out on walks around the beautiful gardens and upscale businesses. The nursing staff are excellent and knowledgeable.

Our neighbor recommend us to Activcare Bressi Ranch where he has a family member under their care. We are grateful that he did. With their professional and compassionate care my mother returned to here healthy, active and happy self . Moving her to a memory care facility was a hard decision to make but a easy one to know was right. With their loving care, new friends, and a regular schedule of activities she thrived. It allowed me to be just her son and not the person giving medicines, keeping her from wondering off and all the things that with dementia led her to question if I was her real son. And with a return to a regular Mother Son relationship I was able to take her to the beach for walks, out to eat and otherwise just enjoy each others company. That is a gift I’m deeply grateful for.
Not only are nurses and care staff wonderful, but also are the kitchen, maintenance and administrative staffs. Everyone interacted with her has if she were their own mother or grandmother.

We were extremely happy with the 8+ years of care and love given to our mom as she navigated the changes of dementia. From the nursing and caregiving staff to the administrative team, each and every person works tirelessly to serve seniors in this very challenging time of life. One of the best aspects of ActivCare is their various levels of care built into their community structure based on individual stage of cognitive function. This is BRILLIANT! I don't usually post reviews online but feel this is necessary. My husband has been at ActivCare Bressi Ranch for over a year. My husband has Parkinson's, Lewy-Body, and Alzheimers. Fortunately he is still high functioning, but declining. I have nothing but positive things to say about the entire staff. Everyone treats my husband with respect and caring, and they are concerned about me too. The receptionist greets everyone warmly and makes time to chat. The administrative staff is open to feedback and helps me make the best choices regarding my husband's care. Activities keep his mind going and his body in as best shape as it can be, even given the decline. The caregivers go out of their way to be cheerful and soothing. The nursing staff -- nurses as well as med techs -- take care of his hurts when he falls down and call me every time something comes up (even when they're busy). Maintenance and housekeeping staff are careful and prompt to keep things working in his room and keep his room clean. The food is nutritious and the menu is continually being tweaked to keep meals interesting and tasty. For my husband, ActivCare Bressi Ranch is the best place since I can't give him the kind of care and support he needs. My thanks to everyone at ActivCare Bressi Ranch.

This place is terrible and so is the staff. David the director is a disrespectful person and has very unprofessional responses, attitude, and behavior. I was dealing with a concern I had with my loved one who is homed here and he was extremely dismissive because I had concerns of how my loved one was being cared for. My family member has DECLINED drastically, had dry, crusty, gunky eye boogers, was not cleaned, had a parched mouth, and was ignored after multiple calls for a quick bed bath, and some water to drink. I was told by one of the cleaners there that the nurses complain about the patients and that “they are such a bother and are so annoying and constantly call for nothing” and they apparently make these comments in Spanish so nobody understands. Well, understand this… Spanish is a universal language and I know what is said and what gossip is. Rude and disgusting behavior. Maybe they behave this way because they are low-paid workers… classless. I will not disclose who my family member is but there was no discipline or discussion regarding David the directors behavior regarding my concerns for my family member and how his staff handles these situations. Please TERMINATE him. There is no need for a director who has no heart or compassion for the elderly. Don’t be deceived, this facility looks clean, wealthy, and worthy of your money but I promise you the care is not present and your loved ones will be another needle in the hay sack- drowning for attention, care, and compassion. Waste of money, my attorneys will be in contact with corporate/ownership. This is not how you treat my family member who is PAYING for health care here. I recommend anyone looking at this review go anywhere else but here. Casa de las Campanas has a better healthcare center based off personal recommendations from friends and associates.

My mother in law was admitted to Active Care a year ago. The staff is incredible. They tend to all of her needs. They have plenty of activities to keep the residents occupied. The facility is beautiful. She loves their food. Rudy Mendez was so helpful with the move in process. She was a godsend. I can’t say enough good things about this facility.
My mom absolutely adores ActivCare! She moved to ActivCare from another facility in the area, and the care she is receiving now so outshines her other facility. She is kept active all day long, so many activities here, and SUCH wonderful staff. From Ruby in the office to Debbie on the floor to Megan at the desk and all the amazing nurses, med techs and aides and others that are too many to mention. Everyone is kind, and helpful, and so attentive to the residents. My mom doesn’t want to participate in all the activities, but she does like to sit on the sidelines and critique others LOL! Residents are never left in chairs in front of the TV just wasting away. They are all encouraged to interact with other residents and participate in all kinds of fun activities. The facility is super-clean, well run, and she loves the food! We are so glad she found ActivCare, we are so grateful that she’s thriving and in such good hands.
