Unprofessional
I was contacted through Indeed by Lily after the company reviewed my profile and indicated that they believed I could be a good fit for an Insurance Account Executive position. I responded and scheduled a phone conversation with Lily to discuss my background.
Unfortunately, the call lasted barely a minute and felt unnecessarily abrupt and dismissive.
Lily asked about my independent insurance experience. I explained that I began on the life and health side as an independent licensed agent and later transitioned into property and casualty. Before I could fully explain my background, Lily interrupted and stated that she had assumed my independent insurance experience was in property and casualty.
My resume does not state that my independent experience was in P&C, so that was an assumption made before the call. I completely understand that the company requires at least one year of P&C experience. What I didn’t appreciate was the tone and abrupt manner in which the conversation was handled, especially considering the company contacted me through Indeed after reviewing my profile.
Not every candidate will meet every requirement, and that’s perfectly understandable. A professional screening conversation could have established that without making the interaction feel dismissive.
Based on my interaction with Lily, I found the recruiting experience unprofessional and disappointing. Candidate interactions are also a reflection of company culture, and this experience left me with a poor impression of the organization.
