Redtrack Tours to Karijini
I was invited to experience this very special holiday by adventurer and environmentalist Dave Goulding of Redtrack Tours.
His knowledge and experience of this unmarked region is second to none and made the adventure a complete and safe holiday, vehicle backup always at the ready.
I joined Dave’s convoy of terrific campers each with their own four wheel drive, camper trailer or caravan, to make a group of 10, for this amazing trip up to the mighty Pilbara and into the breath-taking Karijini.
Dave re-introduced me to his passion, exploring the magic of the Pilbara outback, and amazing destinations. Id been to some of the destinations with him over 40 years ago.
During our adventure we stayed at a number of wonderful stations and enjoyed the personalised hospitality of their owners. The various overnighters both on our travels north and on our return journey home to Perth were a unique look into the lifestyle of yesteryear, each offering peaceful gatherings around an open fire with waterways setting the scene.
The warm spring sunshine was a welcomed break away from Perths wintery weather. Despite some scattered cloud cover and one light wet evening, the days were perfect 30C for camping.
Sun sets were spectacular and night skies were lit up by the bright stars. Reminded us all that we live in a great country with huge open spaces.
Knox, Weano and Fortescue Falls just to mention three of the many beautiful pools we ventured into, are stunning examples of nature’s design and its attention to perfect detail.
The company of our group was a standout which made the tour a lot of fun. Nights were filled with story telling, wines and collections of endless comedy that left you in tears of laughter. Nobody was immune from the ribbing. Great people and full of fun.
Visitors from around the world especially Europe are holidaying the Pilbara, some gaining employment and others, including volunteer backpackers, helping to make the station stay experiences friendly and memorable for all of us.
I couldn’t recommend Dave’s Redtrack Tours enough. He is the real-deal tour leader who imparts his complete understanding of the region effortlessly, which born out of years of being-at-one with the region.
Our holiday in the great Western Australian outback, as Dave reminds us all, is genuinely living a dream.

Thank you, Nabil, for sharing such a heartfelt and vivid account of your adventure! As a very dear friend we shared our love for the Pilbara and reminisced about our many experiences together over the years, 4WDriving and camping in the outback. Our group of fellow campers enjoyed our many stories around the campfire with a lot of laughter. It was a memorable trip.
