My Honest Experience With Beacon Vets During a Challenging Time
I had always been very happy with Beacon Vets and trusted them with all of my animals. However, my experience changed when my dog was diagnosed with Brucella canis. From that point onwards, I personally felt that the level of support and options offered became very limited. The only “best option” that was repeatedly discussed with me was euthanasia, which was extremely upsetting, especially as my dog was otherwise well.
What confused me further was that, despite the concerns raised about Brucella canis, Beacon were still happy to keep my other four pets registered. This felt inconsistent and left me unsure about the overall approach.
I have since moved all of my animals to Cornwall Animal Hospital. In my experience, their team appeared more up‑to‑date with current Brucella canis guidance. They immediately put my dog on a structured antibiotic plan and were able to carry out a castration safely. Public Health also contacted me directly and confirmed it’s such a minimal risk for a human to contract Brucella Canis from a dog, which helped me understand the situation more clearly.
Overall, I left Beacon feeling disappointed by the lack of balanced information and the limited options presented to me. My experience at another practice has shown me that Brucella Canis can be managed safely with the right precautions and up‑to‑date guidance.
