Stay well away from here You think you're doing right booking a dog into a kennels but in this case it was the worst decision we've ever made. Whilst the below is long winded it gives a detailed view of what happened. Over the Christmas we booked our dog "Joe" into a boarding kennels....Joe is a working collie sheep dog who we've had for a number of years....we dropped him on the afternoon of the 20th December to Clonfane Boarding Kennels based in Carracastle, Co. Mayo paying a fee of €320 upfront. On the 23rd December we received a text to say Joe was an escape artist & that he had jumped into another kennel but that the dog in that kennel was friendly, there was no issues & that Joe was now put into an inescapable kennel. On the 27th December we received a text to say there was concern over Joe, that he was off his food & they had found a bump on his side between his shoulder & neck & they would like to get him looked at by a vet, they clarified in the text that Joe was walking & going to the toilet ok.They got an appointment for the next day & subsequently text to let us know the lump was actually a bite that was badly infected, that it had been drained, the area shaved & cleaned. The dog received an injection & was given painkillers. In the same text it said in the 10 years they were in business they never had a dog that jumped soo high along with they were feeding him chicken as he hadn't eaten in 2 days.. Joe went to the vet again on the 30th December & we got a message to say the vet had shaved more of Joe as he was still badly infected. They said the vet advised that some of his skin would fall off & that he would look rough for a while. They also advised that Joe was eating chicken & that they were keeping him inside & bathing his bite marks (this moved to plural). On the 2nd Janaury they advised that Joe was in great form eating, playing & bright as a button but that the skin looked as if it would fall off as per what the vet said. On the 4th Janaury we went to collect the dog......what greeted me was horrific.....our dog was brought out from the back of the house around the sheds,, he showed none of the brightness that was referred to 2 days previous. His face was in complete tatters , it was that badly damaged from his neck right up to his eye it would bring tears to a snowman..... The owner of Clonfane - Chris just stood there with nothing to say for himself...at this stage I couldn't even look at the dog, he was that bad, at no stage were we prepared for how extensive his injuries were & it definitely wasn't something you'd subject your kids to viewing intentionally. We brought him home & Tommy seen him. We discussed putting Joe down to put him out of his misery & Tommy went to the vet for advice. Tommy then rang Clonfane looking for answers as this was clearly an animal welfare problem.... neglect, cruelty of the upmost & an absolute disgrace how our dog was handed back to us from a boarding kennels where the expectation is your pet is kept safe, secure, fed & treated with kindness. Tommy was told that Joe jumped 7 ft into a neighbouring kennel....we weren't aware we had a record breaking jumper with our dog considering he won't jump over our front wall which is 3.5ft & he has pins in his back leg which further prohibit this type of manoeuvre. Tommy asked what type of dog savaged our dog & who owned it...due to GDPR this information couldn't be given.....however is this vicious dog gone home to attack again or to a home with kids where the dogs actions could cause life threatening injuries.... Have Clonfane text or rang to see how the dog is since he got savaged under their care, NO, they haven't again suggesting they don't care what happened whilst they were supposed to be providing a safe, secure environment. On their website they advertise they provide a safe, friendly & caring place for your dog this is soo far from the truth. Tommy went out to talk to the owner of Clonfane to get answers about this, he was told the conversation was being recorded & threatened that the police would be called despite not raising his voice once. Chris during this conversation was extremely defensive and was impossible to talk to. It will take our dog months to full recover from his injuries all sustained whilst under the care of Clonfane Boarding Kennels.
