Exceptional mentorship that drives growth
I worked as a team lead at Verizon for a few years, under the supportive guidance of István Juhász. Stepping into a leadership role as a complete beginner, I faced significant challenges early on — but my weekly meetings with István proved invaluable in navigating them. He also organized company-wide mentoring events, at times bringing in external mentoring specialists as well.
These conversations were relaxed and informal, and I regularly walked away from them with concrete, actionable guidance to bring back to my team.
When personal conflicts arose within the team that I didn't know how to resolve on my own, István was always ready to help — even joining one-on-one conversations with team members when needed.
In the early stages of my leadership journey, I didn't always receive the most favorable feedback from my team. But after a few years — and with István's continued mentorship — I had built a strong working relationship with my team and was consistently receiving very positive feedback by the time I stepped down from the leadership role.
After transitioning back to a developer role, even though István was no longer my direct manager, I could still turn to him as a mentor with any question or challenge I faced.
István is an exceptional mentor: patient, practical, and always available. He played a defining role in my growth as a leader.
