Please consider other Bariatric Doctors or just get one of the new injections (probably better) I couldn't recommend Dr Atalla and his group (except for Marianne who is sensational and Janet is lovely). Literally pre-surgery - a few minutes before, while upstairs waiting to go in - I felt pressured by Dr Atalla to switch to the sleeve from the bypass. I have a mental health condition, which Dr Atalla knows about, he was in touch with my psychologist and had a very detailed history from me, I didn't want the sleeve but felt unable to say no to what felt to me as pressure to change. I couldn't eat and went to see him and felt extremely brushed off. I was told not to eat meat and not to drink fluid close to meals. Without going into the history this has been a complete nightmare. Marianne was always outstanding. She should be paid ten times what she's getting. The nurse he uses was shocking, I will be reporting her to AHPRA when I get more strength back for her terrible advice including taking me off all vitamins - despite not eating - and failure to follow up the next day or at all. Janet was lovely but ineffective. I have had nothing but trouble and have lost far too much weight. I am now well under what I should be at 18 months out. It was recommended by another specialist that they would not go and to see Dr Atalla again but see an expert in the bariatric field. I ceased my relationship with Dr Atalla at that time. Despite not getting basically any usable follow up - that I had paid for - I have received no refund. When you are fat it sounds like a fantastic problem to have to be unable to eat and to have lost too much weight, but it is not. I would rather have never met Dr Atalla and still be fat than to have the problems I have today (and will likely continue to have because of the irreversible sleeve). The issue I have developed was never mentioned as a potential risk and would never have occurred if I had been given the bypass.   After going through my experience, and continuing to go through it, I have seen an excellent bariatric doctor and other specialists. They are out there. They are not Dr Atalla from what I experienced. You might have a great experience with Dr Atalla or you may be so unlucky as to end up in a situation like me. Please make sure you do your research.
