Staff are rude and cocky I’ve just gotten off the phone to a worker from Now Skills after filling out the form of interest to discuss apprenticeship options. I’m aiming for a career in cyber security and had been enquiring about data analysis apprenticeships as a starting step to gain experience with data handling and to gain relevant skills to progress further to cyber roles. But the call and support I received was disappointing and discouraging At the beginning of the conversation I was clearly nervous and stuttering. This, I expected a trained advisor to pick up on and respond with patience and support however, the whole call I was challenged as though I was the person with knowledge of what the company offer. The now skills system is confusing and I was trying to piece two and two together to figure out which apprenticeship I had applied for through them. When I asked for more information ( which is the whole point of the phone call ) I was met with him challenging me and acting as though I should know the answer to my questions. I was genuinely seeking advice and had he have listened to me before rudely interrupting me (more then once) I was about to ask him if they offered any apprenticeships that tied closer to cyber security or what apprenticeships I could find else where that would come in handy. He said to me “one minute you’re talking about data next minute you’re talking about cyber security” yes because we’re talking about career paths I want to go down and you’re ringing to advise me on that.. His cocky attitude was not needed and extremely unprofessional. The phone call lasted three minutes, I don’t feel this is enough time for any advisor to get annoyed at someone, challenge them, and have the ‘customer’ end the phone call because of the way the conversation has gone. I ended the conversation by saying “you’re rude I don’t want to speak to you” I hope this gets back to the advisor and he, in the future, can speak to people with abit more respect. If this is how Now Skills treats people looking for direction and exploring their options, I’d be very cautious about engaging with them.
