Rats in the storage unit Rats ate and defecated all over our belongings. We paid over £4500 for our items to be stored safely so we had them for our new home. A couple of weeks before our move we went to the storage unit to check over what was there. While going through the boxes we notice a horrible smell, then realized that the granules on top of our boxes as likely rodent droppings When we discovered the issue we spent most of our Sunday day moving items to a new unit and going through checking for damage. We did have plans for the rest of the day, but had to cancel them so we could move our belongings. We did ask for a dustpan and brush so we could clear the rodent droppings off the tops of boxes (so we didn't have to touch it) but this never materialised. There was no assistance offered at this stage from Cinch besides the new, smaller, unit. We lost our fridge, our sofa, our armchair and a mattress. There were knaw marks on a 1940s dressing table my mother gave me. The rats had climbed inside our boxes and nested in my tea cups. We were then told to file a claim with insurance and it seems Cinch at that point considered the matter closed. When we requested assistance in chasing the insurance company, this wasn't given. They eventually got back to us due to my follow up with them. Something that took up a large amount of my time, while trying to organise our move and work full time. Frankly, it used time I did not have.  We eventually received funds from the insurance company over six weeks after we originally noticed the damage. We have been without a fridge or sofa in our new home for approaching 3 weeks. Due to Cinch's negligence, we had nowhere cool to store our food when the temperature has been approaching 30°C. Cinch's response to this has been appalling. We weren't offered help going through or sorting out belongings. We weren't given any help in chasing the insurance company. The only thing Cinch has done is cover the delivery costs for the new items, but I had to call 4 times and email multiple times to get this response. I understand things happen, storing items in storage units will never be without risk. But Cinch's handling of this situation has been terrible, that is the reason for the single star. If Cinch had been proactive in helping us, chasing the insurance company, covering delivery, and showing they wanted to make right this situation, it would have been far less stressful and upsetting.
