4 year disaster
Our experience with A Mellor Plumbing, Heating and Renewable Energy Services Ltd has been nothing short of disastrous.
We specifically chose this advanced source heat pump heating and cooling system because it offered year-round climate control — and we invested in it heavily. We even had special coils fitted into almost every room instead of radiators, purely so we could benefit from cooling in the summer. But because they failed to properly lag the pipework during installation, the cooling system was completely unusable from day one. It will have affected the heating as well (We only discovered this 2 years later because we had issues getting the system even heat / work at all, let alone cooling). Cooling does not constitute 18° either which the settings were left on, cooling is 12° which the system could not be set to because it leaked through the walls and unit in the whole house.
This was a fundamental failure that cannot be overlooked and is inexcusable.
Day after day was spent in the attic trying to resolve issues and the back up heater was left on costing hundreds a month to just get heating.
For two full summers, we were left baffled as to why the house never cooled down. It wasn’t until much later that we discovered the installer had set the system to an artificially high cooling temperature (18°C) — not to protect us, but to avoid leaks. Once the temperature was set correctly, water immediately started pouring through our walls and ceilings because the pipes were never properly insulated.
Because the pipework was sealed behind finished walls and ceilings, it is now impossible to correct this without tearing apart our home. Their failure to do the job properly the first time has left us with permanent damage and no usable cooling — despite this being the entire reason we chose this system in the first place.
The heating system was a complete failure. For two winters, we were left without reliable heat — with young children and elderly family members exposed to freezing conditions. The company refused to take responsibility, offered constant excuses, and even resorted to sarcastic comments like “It’s always our fault,” shifting blame for their poor workmanship and lack of expertise.
Despite our repeated efforts to resolve the issues — and some initial attempts from them — it soon became clear the system was beyond saving. Every possible error occurred, and we ended up doing the work ourselves just to keep it running.
Shockingly, they even tried invoicing us for problems they created, despite the system never working properly. A recurring pressure fault forced us to reset it every four days.
They sent different engineers, none of whom understood the system. We were left dealing with months of confusion, stress, and trial-and-error fixes. It was exhausting, unfair, and entirely avoidable.
An aluminium radiator they installed never reached proper temperatures, and when it became clear the system still wasn’t functioning, they had the cheek to try charging us for coming back out — despite the fact that the system had never worked properly from day one.
To make matters worse, all the settings had been maxed out in an effort to make the system function at even the most basic level — which meant our electricity bills went through the roof. We had no idea we were paying hundreds in excess energy use just to keep a broken system limping along.
The truth is, they should never have accepted this job. They clearly had no experience with this type of complex installation, and we were the ones who paid the price — in time, money, stress, and long-term damage to our home.
We trusted them. They failed us completely.
Avoid this company at all costs.
