Buyers Beware We purchased a motorhome from Northern Motorhomes in April 2025 for £15,000 and our experience has been deeply disappointing. Less than a year later, during a pre-MOT inspection, extensive structural corrosion was discovered requiring major welding repairs. Our independent welding specialist advised that the corrosion was long-standing and would not have developed during the period we had owned the vehicle. The damage was so significant that the vehicle was deemed unsafe and required five steel repair plates to be fabricated and welded in order to restore its structural integrity and make it roadworthy again. When collecting the motorhome, we were told that Northern Motorhomes had “blacked” / undersealed the underside for us prior to handover. It has since become apparent that the underside had been heavily coated, with serious corrosion present beneath. The blacking concealed the corrosion from both ourselves and the MOT garage until further investigation was carried out. Based on our experience, it raises serious concerns as to whether vehicles with known issues are being purchased and resold without proper repair or disclosure. We raised these concerns with the company immediately and gave them the opportunity to inspect the vehicle before repairs commenced. Although our complaint was acknowledged and we were told the matter would be discussed internally, no meaningful response was ever provided and no attempt was made to inspect the vehicle or resolve the matter. As a result, we were left with no option but to proceed with substantial repairs at our own expense in order to keep the vehicle safe and roadworthy. We are extremely disappointed not only with the condition in which this vehicle was sold to us, but also with the complete lack of after-sales support when serious issues were brought to their attention. Based on our experience, we would strongly advise others to exercise caution and ensure any vehicle purchased is independently inspected before committing.
