I'll Pass
I contacted Goldberg Jones through their website's inquiry form. I received an email, likely automated, acknowledging my inquiry. The next day, Zephyr Hill, "Managing Attorney" at Goldberg Jones phoned me. I let him know I'd like to meet before the end of the month (14 business days remaining in the month) and he assured me they'd get me on the calendar.
Today a staff member (receptionist?) called me to CONFIRM a meeting for tomorrow, but no one had contacted me to schedule the referenced meeting, so I balked at confirming. The staff member could not comprehend any account of this reality and kept responding that I was on the calendar.
I'm sure it was a waste of time to ask her if this is how the firm normally did business, but I couldn't help myself. Predictably, she didn't know anything about that. I asked to speak with Zephyr Hill, and after a brief hold, she let me know I'd be placed back on hold until he became available. At that moment,t I realized I didn't want to do business with a firm that was so careless with a potential client, much less as an actual client with the sunk cost of a retainer.
I informed the staffer that since they had my number, Zephyr Hill, "Managing Attorney" at Goldberg Jones, could call me. In the time it's taken me to write this, there has been no call. I'd like to keep an open mind - perhaps Zephyr is researching where they went wrong, but I suspect it's a case of easy-come, easy-go for Goldberg Jones.
* UPDATE: After 25 min Zephyr Hill, "Managing Attorney" at Goldberg Jones emailed to reste their fee schedule and offer the lamest of excuses: "Sorry for any confusion. We thought we had already scheduled you for an initial meeting tomorrow to prepare for your pending [redacted]"
To quote Maya Angelou, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time,"
I try to live by this advice, because it's proven true over and over. Trust people's actions over their words - accept someone's true character when it is revealed through their behavior, rather than making excuses for it or expecting them to change.
I shared this (excluding the *Update) with Zephyr Hill, "Managing Attorney" at Goldberg Jones and received no reply.
