Pros: Cost, Spacious Rooms, Air Conditioning, In-Unit Bathroom, Location
Cons: Bug Bite (?), Bunk Assignments not Followed, Visible Lock-Box, Difficulty Using Lock-Box
I needed a last-minute accommodation during my recent trip to Salt Lake City. BPOSHTELS had availability in their 8-bed female dorm room. It was very affordable - approx. $31/night - direct through their website. The hostel consists of a few rooms specifically renovated for shared space at the motel "Metropolitan Inn". The biggest factor I consider for location is access to public transport. Although Uber/Lyft is available in the city, it was a convenient 6-minute walk to Courthouse Station, where I was able to get the Trax back to the airport the next morning.
Despite everything appearing clean, I did get a massive bug bite overnight on my thigh, which was not exposed until I changed into pajamas in this room. Upon arrival around 12:30am, I was assigned a bottom bunk, but when I got to the room, all bottom bunks were occupied. Given the time of night, I was not going to complain or try making changes and I just hopped in the bunk above my assigned one. (As someone who travels and frequently stays in hostels, it is always a little disappointing to have a top bunk, especially when assigned a bottom bunk.) The lock-box provided is spacious and great, but (1) the actual lock apparatus is incredibly confusing, and wouldn't fit the lock I travel with; and (2) has a massive, clear window so that everyone in the room would be capable of seeing your valuables. Lastly, the window to the room was open, and there was a lot of outside noise. I'm a heavy sleeper and enjoyed the noise, but I know this is not the case for everyone.
