I'm very sorry to have to give a less than positive review for one of the rare vegan restaurants in Johannesburg, as I truly want to support vegan businesses. However, I was quite disappointed with our visit to The Fussy Vegan. We tried various items: two large portions of fries, a breakfast bowl, a chimichanga, a salad, drinks, and dessert. Despite the place being empty and seemingly no Uber orders to fulfill, we had to wait for quite a while - which was somewhat okay, as we understand that can happen. Then, the food arrived COLD. I've never experienced fries being served cold before. Everything else was also cold except for the chimichanga.
This was very disappointing, especially considering the price (over 500 Rand) and the fact that it's a fast-food style place with counter service, not a full-service restaurant. The Kombucha (from Twiins) was very delicious, and the Walnut Fudge was incredibly tasty; I would definitely order the fudge again.

The chimichanga has a longer preparation time than our other meals and it seems like there was more emphasis placed on serving your entire order together as opposed to serving the items as they were ready. Tried this place for the first time. They have a cool range on their menu and if the burger I had is anything to go by, you won't he disappointed. Food is great quality and super tasty. See you again sometime soon.

Terrible ownership and service, inedible food.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I've been vegan for 20 years and have traveled with world enjoying vegan food from the most lofty of 5 star restaurants to the most humble street food sold out of a cart in the road in a developing country - which is usually the best. My experience with this place in JNB on a 10 day business trip was repeatedly appalling, I tried to give them more than once chance and it was ludicrous. The first time I ordered I got these rubbery strings of red dyed fake meat in a bun with some lumpy white puss looking sauce which was supposed to be a cheese steak. There was no cheese. Took two bites, gagged, threw it away. The mac and cheese was filled with chemical tasting hard red plastic like bits that were supposed to be fake bacon and it was dry like sand. The second time I ordered through uber eats, got mac and cheese without the fake bacon and requested an extra side of cheese sauce, was happy to pay for it. Also got the jalapeno burger asked for a regular bun instead of seeded, and extra chiptole sauce. ordered a coke. The order came with no coke and no sauces, the burger had nothing on it but a beyond patty and a lot of canned jalapeno slices. No lettuce, no sauce no nothing. I asked Uber for that refund for just the coke that never came and threw away the horrid burger. They gave no extra sauce as ordered for the mac and cheese so it was dry as sand again, inedible.
Uber may have refunded the 31 rand for the missing coke, not sure, but the owner of this dump had the gall to write me a nasty email castrating me for asking for the refund for the missing coke from uber. Arrogant, nasty, unprofessional man-child. I'm pretty sure the restaurant has to be writing their own 5 star reviews here. I never would have posted one until that arrogant owner had the gall to castrate me for asking for a refund on a drink they never sent me. I would stay away from this place there are others you can enjoy without the dry garbage food and even worse attitude. This uber order was 635 rand. You get a kick right up your bum if you don't get the drink, you are supposed to grin and bear it. This place is not worth the time or money.
The owner attacks anyone who posts a negative review, which is a testament to his man-child psyche. Cue abusive retort from owner in 3, 2, 1 ---

The place wasn't full so we got service quickly. The staff is friendly and food amazing. Was sceptical about trying vegan bacon but now I'm sold!

Service is slow, the display fridge top shelf is empty,my urban go tasted like chemicals maybe from cleaning, it took long to make because of other burger orders. Something has changed.
The delivery driver is a creep ,nope I’m good, no longer going back. I did confront the driver but as a woman it’s enough for me to not return respectfully. Ladies don’t become friendly with him once you think it’s ok to break the physical barrier he will try kiss you my idiot mistake was greeting because I haven’t been at the shop in a very long time we’ve never hugged I was a regular and would sit with my friend. Until today I remembered why I never broke the physical barrier. Never Let your guard down. Plus a bad tasting burnt burger no thank you. The atmosphere is dull, happy I found alternatives.

I had my favorite burger here (The Jalapeno burger) and I enjoyed the burger although it was not as saucy I would come back again and try other things. The store still feels very new and could do with more internally after the previous vegan owners created such a atmoshpere for all types of people. I look forward to the growth of this section.

We launched an inquiry and after discussing the matter with all of our employees who know who you are and were present when you were in-store we now understand that you are friends with a disgruntled past employee, we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to customers making false accusations purely to slam our brand.
You have tried to throw everything about our brand under the bus, the fact that you're complaining about the top shelf of a display fridge being empty shows how petty your complaints are.
Our driver gets reviewed on every delivery and in the 2 Years he has been with us we have never had any issues with him.
Please make use of your alternatives, you are no longer welcome at our stores.
