Zero buyer protection with Mercari Mercari does not protect buyers. My purchase came as an empty envelope that was supposed to contain a blouse. The seller did not properly seal the envelope and the item was either lost (or stolen) during shipment from Hawaii to California. I contacted the seller and Mercari right away, sent pictures of the empty envelope (seems ridiculous but the only “proof” I had), and reached out to Mercari several times to try to resolve. I even spoke to my mail carrier and he said that was how he delivered the envelope so I know the blouse was not stolen from my mailbox. Mercari ultimately paid the seller and will not be giving me a refund. Mercari also rated the seller on my behalf which allows them to close the sale in my account so now I have no recourse. Very shady operation.

Buyer fees How can Mercari think it’s acceptable to charge buyers to buy products off their platform. This is robbery. Their is no longer a need to purchase used if the price will end up being close to the original price.

REPORT THEM I purchased an item. The seller had three business days to ship it. Mercari sent me several messages stating that if the items tracking information was not updated within seven days of me making the order, then I would be eligible for a refund and cancellation of the order. I messaged them at the end of that seven days with screenshots, showing them what they said to me, and when they said that I would be eligible for a refund. They then proceeded to tell me that I actually needed to wait 15 days and to just ignore all of the messages that I received from them saying that I would be eligible for a refund after seven days. They then proceeded to call me the wrong name, kept copying and pasting the same message within emails, and kept ignoring my question which was “why is it that you continue to send me and other customers messages stating that tracking information is not available with a week we can get refunded when in actuality your policy is that we actually need to wait 15 days?” They never answered this question. Instead, they thanked me for being willing to wait on the order to arrive. After getting the runaround, I disputed with my bank and I am looking into making a BBB complaint as well. Now that Mercari has so many eyes on it after dropping seller fees down, they will want to have good press. They will not want BBB coverage of their scamming policies. Please report them.

Beware of buying from this site as returning will be impossible. Beware of buying from this site as returning an item will be impossible. I bought a backgammon set, when arrived I noticed that there was a large mark on one outer side and the actual inside field was peeling. When asked for a return they asked so many irrelevant questions and images that was evident that they did not want to approve the return. For example they asked for the images of the box that arrived which had nothing to do with the condition of the game box, or images of places that had no damage. They never addressed the fact that the images sent showed existing damage when they declined a measly $40.00 game set. Will NEVER buy from this site regardless of the price.
DO NOT BUY on MERCARI I bought a perfume from Mercari. The item arrived in 15 days. I am using this same perfume for last 6 years. Once, I opened it and try it, I knew that it was FAKE. I reported on Mercari Customer service and this is the answer I got. They wrote that they have no way to check it, it is my job to provide proof that it is FAKE. Ridiculous. I cannot believe that They asked me to get a third party VERIFICATION that the perfume is FAKE. I have no idea who verify these perfumes. Also, they should have asked seller to provide the proof that the perfume is genuine. It seemed that at Mercari, the customer is always wrong. I have not experienced such a bad customer service any place/ Online retailer ever. The worst company and garbage customer service. DO NOT BUY on Mercari.

Mercari scam worst site to sell through Sent a gold ring to a woman, upon receiving it she asked to return it, which is automatic. I get the return package with an empty ring box. They automatically took her side. Have gone back and forth with them and they wont give me any kind of compensation and avoid answering my question as to how to avoid this from happening again. Seller protection is BS. I sell thousands of dollars with them a year and have excellent scores on Mercari and on 5 other sites. They will lose more money than what the ring was worth. Im done with them.

I will never sale anything on there again the buyer received the Package a week after they hold my money until the buyer says his package is good then they release it to you they gave him 2 opportunities to respond that is 24 hours they did that twice ..Beware !!!

Collectors cards are unbelievably overpriced Speaking only on sports cards, buy far the least educated sellers. The prices are 3-4 times that of eBay, PWCC, etc. mercari needs to ban most of them

Scammers Absolute BS. Have a money back guarantee if you buy a broken item. What they don't tell you is until it's delivered to the seller you won't get the refund. So when you have a petty seller that sold you a broken $200 xbox and knows its broken. They won't accept the delivery of the item. Therefore no refund. Mercari has been 0 help and said until it's out of transit there's nothing they can do. But this item will stay in transit because the seller won't get the item because they're petty. Mercari said yesterday if it happened again I'd get a refund so I message today saying ups tried to deliver again and same thing. Guess what I get "we can't do anything because it's still in transit" same bs spill as yesterday where they act like they'll be of service if it continues to happen but when it continues to happen they still do jack

Sell elsewhere mercari is a horrible sellers platform Mercari is crooked site. As a seller they could care less about you because they profit from your fees. I made them a lot of money in one year selling. I had two issues, one someone returns an item they bought from me ripping the tags and packaging they sent it back saying it wasn’t new. But my photos show tags and packaging. They favored th buyers side. Mercaris rules are not right.
Lousy Customer Service Mercari's customer service policies are absolutely ridiculous and their claims to be a sustainable company are also highly questionable. I had a very bulky item arrive damaged because of the seller's fault. I offered to accept a small refund, even in store credit, in order to replace the part that was broken. I argued with customer service that the refund I was requesting was a lot less than Mercari would have to pay to refund me my original shipping costs + ship item back to seller. On top of that, I was returning a broken item to the seller, who would have to invest to repair the item, or throw it away. My solution was perfect for all of us, but they provide "no partial refunds". BS policy, IMO. Never buying again from them, one of the reasons I buy second hand is to feel good about the planet, I don't want broken 45 Lbs items being shipped back and forth

DO NOT BUY FROM MERCARI !!! WARNING - DO NOT BUY FROM! Knock-off items, and NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT FROM MERCARI - sellers will block you if you ask about authenticity after purchase. I had bought (2) - NEW GENUINE HP Q2612A Black Toner Cartridges and when I went to use them I contacted the seller and told them that both cartridges were printing black smudged lines across the document. I believed they were not original HP cartridges (as stated in the listing) and actually refilled knock-off ones and how can I remedy my issue - could they provide replacements. I sent multiple messages to the seller to inform them of my issue and did not receive any response. They blocked me from asking further questions and now I get the message error: "You cannot buy, chat, follow, make offers, or like items listed by this user." Mercari was no help when contacted as they stated they have a “3-day” return policy and said: “Please note that Mercari users can block any user for any reason regardless of circumstance. I understand it does not seem like an ethical or polite thing to do, but it is not considered prohibited. Given this situation that these transactions are already completed, we can no longer process refunds and we treat these as the sales are final.” It was a replacement ink cartridge that I did not need to use until a few weeks later. Most on-line retailers offer at least a 15 day, if not a 30 day guarantee and most sites stand behind the products they provide for sale to protect the consumer from fraud. So their retailers can sell an obviously defective or inferior product and as long as nothing is said within 3 days of delivery the buyer is out of luck. That doesn’t seem like a good business model to protect consumers. In my books that’s called a scam and does not give me a great deal of confidence in the sellers on the site, nor Mercari’s credibility.

MERCARI SELLS FAKE ITEMS Unfortunately, I cannot give ZERO stars, otherwise I would. Mercari allows people to sell fake items and they don't do anything about it. If you don't report it within 15 days, you are tough out of luck. How do you know if something is fake within 15 days? You may not even have the chance to open it yet. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, DON'T BUY FROM THEM!

Counterfeit Items, and Fake Coupons/Discounts There are a ton of counterfeit items on Mercari. Mercari will do nothing about it. I've reported many of them. Mercari receives seller's fees from counterfeit sellers, so they do nothing about it. And, Mercari does not honor their own coupons, and discounts.

Not seller friendly!!! Terrible support team Very unhappy seller! I was a 5-star seller. I was receiving messages from buyers that were considered ‘prohibited content’ and Mercari Support immediately closed my account. I tried to ask support for another chance of keeping my account open, but the support team didnt try to help me at all! They barely even responded to my support messages. Once they finally answered, they closed my account. Rhose and Chad from Mercari support and the rest or the support team did nothing to help. Phone support also wasnt available in my area, NY…. Which is ridiculous ! 0 stars for Mercari and their support team!!!

Beware! BEWARE! DO NOT USE! Zero stars if it were possible. they aren't seller friendly. They are not understanding of shipping situations, such as weather conditions, or holidays that may delay shipping. I requested a refund of $9 and they won't give it..Customer service is hard to get ahold of and are not personable. I've been using since 2022 and never again. Beware..Beware..Beware! In the pictures you can see the discussion I had with them, their FAQ, and the delivery confirmation from the customer..

Call the police Shut Mercari Down Do not sign up this website needs to be reported to the police and taken down . I have a legal business and sold over a hundred dollars worth of items. Two years later I'm waiting for my money. They demanded my legal documents and now I see selling replica of my legal business store unlicensed unauthorized illegal seller. First there contact address was in New York Brooklyn then I see it change to china. Do not sign up and be forced for your legal documents. The owner operator is a big scammer.

Fake products everywhere on Mercari I was sold fake AirPods on Mercari. The serial number was legit but apparently had been reused over and over again. There's no way to tell that unless you go to the Apple store. Once I discovered this, I contacted Mercari. No refund because it was longer than two weeks. This site is a joke.
