Wonderful experience. Warm, friendly and very professional and experienced Doctor and team. I needed a quick appointment slot at last minute. I was seen within 2 hours of asking for an appointment, report and images sent within another further hour. Excellent service and put my mind at rest informing me what the ultrasound was showing and why I have had been in so much pain. Highly recommended.

As a regulated medical clinic in the UK, we must follow strict medical and privacy regulations. For this reason, we are not allowed to permit video recording during medical procedures, including ultrasound examinations.
However, after the scan is completed, we always provide selected ultrasound images and short video clips of the baby to our patients as part of our standard service.

We received a bad news—no foetal heart beat (miscarriage). The sonographer and the staff were professional throughout. And they immediately emailed the official result we needed for the hospital (though they initially said 24hours). Thank you.

So I got a last minute gender reveal appointment for 13 weeks. It was £245. It was one of my impulsive moments and I wish I had waited and not paid so much for it. Firstly, the imaging of the scan was terrible! I could barely make out the babies head or body parts. With my nhs scan 2 weeks prior I could fully see my baby moving around kicking and it looked like an actual baby!! Paying £245 I really thought I would have a nice moment being able to see the baby properly but the scan was horrible and as you can imagine the pictures we took home were embarrassing to even show family because it looked like nothing, my husband was like where is the baby? I didn’t even know what to tell him because I didn’t know myself! My free nhs scan looked miles better. Secondly, the way the tech delivered the gender was not ideal. I was watching what he was doing the whole time and I don’t remember him looking at the genitalia at all and all of a sudden he just knew what the sex was. Unless he did look and I wouldn’t know since it all looked like a big ball of nothing. But if he did it would have been brief and I would have assumed it would take a while with me being only 13 weeks? So, he delivered it by saying ‘this is your son’s thigh bone’ I’m like sorry my son?? He’s like no I didn’t say that. Then he proceeded to call the baby a ‘he’. I’m like so you do know the sex?? He’s like yes it’s a boy. I really thought it would have been delivered in a more exciting way like allowing me to see the potty shot or at least asking me if I’m ready to know the gender, Because this all happened within only a couple of mins of me being there. Idk this whole scan just feels like a scam to me, whether he for sure knows it’s a boy or if he just guessed and chances are 50% that he’s correct who knows? It just seemed too soon for him to know but he seemed really confident. I am looking to confirm this at 16 weeks as I’m still left unsatisfied with how the scan went. Which I’m only paying £50 for the 16w one!!! I don’t know how I allowed myself to pay £245 for this scan I honestly wish I had never, it wasn’t a ‘heart warming’ experience for me as I could barely even see my baby. For those thinking of doing it please don’t! Just wait for the 16w one, it’s a lot cheaper. I did a 16w one with my other two kids and it was much better!!! This place feels like a scam that robbed me of my money. I don’t think I would be this upset if it wasn’t this expensive.

We would like to clarify a few important points for accuracy and transparency.
Firstly, the purpose of the 13-week Early Gender Scan is specifically and solely the early determination of fetal sex, which is exactly how this appointment was advertised, selected, and booked. As with all ultrasound examinations, each scan has a different clinical and technical objective. Unlike NHS dating scans or later private reassurance scans, this appointment focuses almost entirely on targeted views of the genital region, not full anatomical or cinematic imaging of the baby. For this reason, the images may appear less recognisable or “whole-body” compared with scans performed at later gestations.
After reviewing your scan internally, our senior clinical team confirmed that the images obtained were of good diagnostic quality and entirely appropriate for a 13-week gender assessment. It is also important to note that fetal appearance changes significantly between 13 and 16 weeks, and scans at 16 weeks are naturally clearer and more visually recognisable — something we always explain to patients both verbally and on our website.
Regarding the delivery of the gender result, we are sorry that this was not communicated in the way you hoped. While our sonographers are highly experienced and clinically accurate, we acknowledge that presentation and communication style matter, and we take this feedback seriously. We will be addressing this internally to ensure expectations are better aligned and moments are delivered more sensitively.
To address concerns about accuracy:
Phoenix Ultrasound operates under a strict Early Gender Accuracy Policy. In the extremely unlikely event that an early gender diagnosis is later proven incorrect, we offer a refund of five times the cost of the Early Gender Scan. We are proud to say that this has never occurred to date. The gender in your scan was identified confidently using established sonographic markers appropriate for this gestational age.
Regarding pricing, we fully appreciate that £245 is a significant amount. Phoenix Ultrasound has never positioned itself as the cheapest provider in London. Our pricing reflects senior sonographers, extended appointment times, strict quality assurance, internal image review, and advanced ultrasound equipment. We encourage all patients to compare providers and choose what best suits their expectations and priorities.
We are truly sorry that this scan did not feel like the heart-warming experience you hoped for. However, we would like to reassure you — and future readers — that your scan was clinically correct, professionally performed, and appropriately delivered for a 13-week Early Gender appointment.
