Climbing Kilimanjaro with Climb Kili was one of the most profound and challenging experiences of my life—and it was the people who made it truly unforgettable. Our entire mountain crew was exceptional, and I’m especially grateful for our lead guide, Veda, along with our assistant guides, John and Steve, whose teamwork and dedication carried us every step of the way.
From the very beginning, Veda led with a quiet confidence that instantly made me feel safe. He has an incredible ability to read both the mountain and his climbers—knowing exactly when to slow the pace, when to encourage, and when someone needed extra support without even having to ask. That level of awareness made all the difference, especially as the altitude and exhaustion started to set in.
John and Steve were equally outstanding—always present, attentive, and encouraging. Whether it was checking in on how we were feeling, helping us stay motivated, or simply bringing positive energy to the group, they played such an important role in making the experience feel supported and seamless.
What stood out most was how deeply this team cared. Veda wasn’t just guiding us—he was fully invested in each of us making it, safely and successfully. Together, the guides and crew created a sense of calm even in the most physically and mentally demanding moments.
Summit night is something I’ll never forget. Freezing, exhausted, and pushing past limits I didn’t know I had, it was Veda’s steady presence, encouragement, and belief in us that carried me forward. He didn’t just get us to the top—he helped us believe we could get there in the first place.
Beyond their expertise, the entire crew brought warmth, humor, and heart to the journey. The energy they created made the mountain feel less intimidating and the experience far more meaningful.
I also want to give a special thank you to Mike (Michael Fredrick Mziray), who handled my airport transfers—picking me up at 2am and dropping me off at 2am. From the very first hour, his enthusiasm, kindness, and knowledge stood out. He shared so much about the beauty of Tanzania, its landscapes, and natural resources, instantly making me feel welcomed and at ease. He is incredibly caring and clearly passionate about what he does. He mentioned his aspiration to become a safari guide with Climb Kili, and I truly hope the team recognizes his dedication and potential—he would be an amazing fit for that role.
I also want to shout out the incredible group of fellow climbers I met along the way. I came to Tanzania solo, but I’m leaving with friendships that feel genuine and lasting. There’s something about pushing through challenges together on the mountain that creates a special kind of bond—and I know these connections will stay with me for a very long time.
Lastly, a thank you to the staff at the Summit Lodge in Arusha (Doreen Kim, Chum, rooftop staff, security guide…)! Their warmth, friendliness, and welcoming energy truly set the tone both before and after the climb—it made the entire experience feel seamless from start to finish.
Reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro is unforgettable—but who you climb with matters just as much. I’m beyond grateful for Veda, John, Steve, Mike, and the entire Climb Kili team for making this journey one I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
