Hélas, le pain de la perfection est arrivé au paradis!
A 30-year part-time, now fulltime Galenian (who has travelled & worked throughout Europe), i have long pined for local, ambient access to crisp-yet-soft, buttery croissant…classic sandwiches on crunchy, toothy, yeasty, baked-that-day baguette…and the tart, sweet, subtle, delicate & stunning pastry that the French do best.
Suddenly—at a time when all of dining…travel…and tourism everywhere are reinventing & re-emerging…
Just as Galena’s always robust rhythm of relaxation & romance has been re-energized & re-invigorated by a fresh re-framing of casual alfresco downtown drinking & dining that feels more Marais than Midwestern…
VOILA! A peiti spit that’s a SLICE OF Paris chic bloomed this Spring in Galena, the beau bouquet of French Master Foodie , Eric Bettemaine.
Galena has been prized for its lush farmland and hills like Tuscany or County Kerry….one of the best-preserved .19th CENTURY MAIN STREETS…a town with a significant link to the shaping of The American Story. Shopping. Music. Museums. Artists & Artisans. Tasty local IPAs & clever cocktail lists at nearly every watering hole.
And now, something I’d mentally transposed from my travel memories and wished into into my hometown really exists: A fab “go to” with imported marble-topped tables & those great, woven cafe chairs. A happening playlist. And a perfect place to stop, exhale, look up & admire a curious cornice or roofline… and savor a spot o Prosecco & a cone o frites…. or polish off a pain chocolat avec cafe
Merci Monsieur et Madame Bonnetaine & your Young, friendly staff. TRÈS BIEN INDEED!
